I have been reading a devotional book called, "One on One" by Hall of Fame Basketball Coach John Wooden and Jay Carty. The first day's devotion is about how many second's we have in a day. If I do the math correctly it 86, 400. WOW, what a number. When you put that in perspective to your day it is amazing to see what your production is, and who are you truly using that time for?
My Dad always asked me when I came home from school, "Todd, What have you done to be a Champion today?" I would have to answer that on a daily basis. My Dad had a theory that I know he practiced on a daily basis of getting 2% better. That is a very managable number. My Dad would challenge his players and others around him to get better by 2%. The reason is because if you get 2% better on Monday , by Friday you are 10% better than you were on Monday. This was a thought that didn't just need to take place on a athletic field or in a office. This is an idea that you adopt with your spiritual life or family life. Every area life needs improvement. Now that I am grown and my Dad is no longer with us, I have a sign in my office with that statement on it.
Since starting to read Coach Wooden's devotional book it reminded me of my Dad's challenge. That number of 86, 400 has stayed with me and made me often think. I know that each day is a gift from God. I want to make sure that I take each day and live it to the fullest. That concept is hard to do, but if we focus on a certain area of life, great things can be accomplished. In this Season, please make sure that you think about the significance you are making on a daily basis in those 86, 400 seconds.
