As I watch, I often look up encouraging videos to help positively influence me. This video that I am posting, just happens to be from my cousin and best friend Rich Wilkerson Jr. He is a very gifted communicator, which speaks all over the world. This specific video is Jesus through every book in the Bible. I hope this encourages you on this amazing day!!!
One of the greatest ways our culture has been influenced is through the power of YouTube. I have enjoyed the amazing, funny and powerful video's all over that web site. Everyday I try to teach a basic principle to those that I serve at the Rescue Mission. It is very simple, but can alter your future. It is the thought that you never know who you are going to come in contact with and how that relationship is important.
Many times throughout my life this has happened to me. I have had interaction with people that have contributed to my personal growth. For example, my last two jobs that I have had, have come from friendships that have been created since the time I was young. I was always taught from my Dad and Mom, you never know how your present relationships can contribute to your future. These relationship are something to be valued, whether it be as a friend, mentor or potential co worker. How you treat people says volumes about your character. As you go through your day, place more value on the relationship you are creating rather than your present circumstances. As a young boy, I loved to get Dove Ice Cream bars with my Dad and Brother in the summer. I would often open the box and proceed to give all the individual packages away. Once I did this, I would take mine and hand it to my Dad and say, "Dad would you open this"? He would open it and I would scarf it down.
This action as a boy I would often do. Anything with a wrapper, I would always ask for help until I was of age to do so myself. Looking back on this I have uncovered a unique thought. It is why don't I ask for help now as much as I did back then? Was it because I was not capable and now I am or is it I became prideful? I think that it is a combination of it all. As children we rely on everyone for help, but as we grow up society tells us to rely on only yourself. Unfortunately, that should not be the case. We are all in need of help. We need each other to mold us and shape us into the great people God has created in leadership and in life. Since grasping this idea, I have forced myself to the point of being uncomfortable to ask for HELP!!! This might be perceived as a weakness in many leadership areas. However, I believe that it is a great strength. The reason is that great leaders understand that they can't rely only on themselves. They need their team and mentors to contribute to success. When you do things alone you set yourself up to fail. Since none of us want to fail, we need to ask for help more often. When we do this we create a culture in our team/organization that asking for HELP is OK. I encourage you to always ask for HELP when you are unclear on a task or it is outside your comfort zone. You will soon discover that 2 people are better than 1, and success is a lot more fun when you get to celebrate with others. One of my favorite sports is golf. At this particular time, The Master's tournament is going on. As I watch this amazing game and see all of the patrons that witness it. I discover how it is important for golfers to have tremendous focus. Any noise or movement can be distracting resulting in an errant shot. It is incredible to see the focus these professional golfers have on each shot they take.
As I have thought about focus, I have realized what an important tool it is to experience success. There are tasks that we all have daily that take more focus than others, but overall they contribute to success. In watching The Master's, I have uncovered a thought which is, "What if I took into account the amount of focus on all my tasks like a golfer takes into each shot. Would I become more productive?" Since discovering this thought I have tried to put this into practice. Rather than spending longer blocks of time trying to focus. I have worked in 60-90 minute intervals spending those time in great focus and then taking a short break to refresh/refocus. Upon doing this I have felt more accomplished daily with different items that I must do. It has helped me at personally at home, since my productivity has improved at work. As I continue to tinker with my personal ability to get better as a leader. I have begin to uncover that focus has become a amazing asset when used right. It is a powerful tool that we all have the ability to control. The key is making sure that we understand how to use it in a productive matter. I encourage you to evaluate the importance of your focus in your daily life. Inspect your productivity to see how changing your focus will improve your development professionally and personally. In doing this, you should see greater results as a whole. On my wedding day at the family reception my Uncle Fulton Buntain talked about the importance of moments in life. He discussed how our present circumstances define who we are as people in the future. They make up defining moments in us.
Life has many different defining moments that we can look back on as a turning point for greatness or failure. Both contribute to success in the long run. A quote that my Dad would always say is, "The only difference between a stumbling block and a stepping stone is how high you lift you foot." When we have these moments we see the importance of this quote. One of my greatest defining moments in my life is when I became a Dad. It gave me a new perspective of how my heavenly Father loves me as well as how my earthly father loved me. This amazing defining moment in my life has shaped me to become a greater person as a whole than I was before. I am so grateful for all my defining moments that have been great and awful. It allows me to see where I have been and where I am going. I encourage you to sit down and write out some of the defining moments that have shaped you both good and bad. It will encourage you to see the amazing growth you have had in your life!!! I have decided to do something different for this blog. I have put my notes from a talk I did on Faithfulness in our weakness to 20 of the Life Christian Academy seniors doing a home mission to Tillicum. Please enjoy this unique format!!!
FAITHFULNESS IN OUR WEAKNESS Privilege to spend time with you at this point in Time!! Thanks to Aaron Gentile and Life Christian Academy!!! Story of HS camp & At camp Arnold (God teaches us to say YES even when we least expect it) In thinking about this talk, about faithfulness in our weakness, I could not help myself but to think of Obedience!! Obedience is defined as Compliance with someone's wishes or orders or acknowledgment of their authority. or Submission to a law or rule. Obedience is being faithful out of our weakness, it is a willingness to say yes when you completely need to rely on God for the strength If it was easy to always be obedient out of your weakness than we would have a lot more radical Jesus people!! Unfortunately many Jesus people are conditional believers!! Only when it works for me will I truly believe. For Example- Only when I get to sweep the floor rather than mop it will I say YES Only when my friends treat me right will I say YES Only when I can be in front of people will I say YES Young people when you say Yes out of your weakness or in your weakness you put your faith into your belief, which then becomes your action!!! I have heard it said, "Don't enjoy the aroma of others obedience and neglect the taste of your own" Meaning, your satisfied listen to others having break-thru, rather than doing it yourself!! I think of people that did not just smell the aroma of saying Yes and being Obedient they lived it!! These are all people from the Bible that tasted it for themselves and saw the provision of God Places in the Bible people said YES Discuss each story--- Noah and the Ark Abraham with Isaac David battling Goliath Joshua battling Jericho Daniel in the Lions Den Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego Job faithfulness Joseph and Mary birth of Jesus Jesus going to the cross Paul on the road to Damascus Saying Yes in your weakness becomes amazing Obedience of giving who you are to Jesus In closing 2 quick story- Story of the check from The Blessed Life Preaching/Missionary/Gives the Check/Pizza Parlor/ Guy Questions him/check wrote for double! When you say YES and allow the Super of God to come into your natural circumstances, supernatural things happen! I am going to leave you with my favorite scripture Matthew 19:26 I want you to say Yes in your weakness and be obedient and watch what happens!! Be All In- Story of me on the table with my dad I am going to give you an opportunity to say Yes in your weakness Close in Prayer with adjectives of Jesus |
