The 6th characteristic of Jesus Leadership is Obedience. This might be be the one that people struggle with the most, due to the fact that it relies on us to listen and trust others. Which I have noticed that many leaders have a hard time doing. My wife and I are currently in the process of teaching our 3 year old, Carter (The Legend) about obedience. What I have noticed is that the key factor of obedience is listening. When Carter listens to what we say, he is more apt to do what we ask. In comparison to when he preoccupied and doesn't listen he will be disobedient. I know as his dad, that is not his nature to be disobedient, but something we get distracted and become disobedient. The greatest example of obedience is Jesus life was going to the cross. He was sent to earth for 1 purpose, to redeem man from all sin by conquering death, hell and the grave. This did not come without a price. Many of us forget that Jesus was fully human, so when He was beaten it hurt, when the crown of thorns were pushed on His head, He felt it. All the pain and torture He went through, He felt. Was all of it worth it? Absolutely. I think that if Jesus was in the flesh sitting in front of us and we asked the question if He would do it all over, He would. What a powerful statement of obedience. Jesus listened and trusted the long term plan and knew God had his back no matter what. He ignored the noise around him. Thus making the outcome powerful for the rest of us. I often wonder how different our lives would be if we decided to listen to God and ignore all the noise around us and be obedient to what He is asking us to do. I know for a fact that outcomes would be different, finances would be stable, families would be whole, marriages would be reconciled, and relationships would be mended. All of this comes by making a choice. Is it difficult at times to trust and be obedient. Of course!! Is it worth it?? Absolutely!!! I believe that the price of obedience cost a lot, but disobedience cost more. Jesus set an amazing standard for us to follow. What I love the most is that Jesus was about action, not about talk. All of these leadership traits that I am discussing come from a place of action. Jesus didn't just say it, He did it. No greater leader to follow than that of one that isn't shy to do it themselves. As we go about our day, I encourage you to ignore the noise in our daily lives and find way to listen and be obedient in a different capacity. |
