“Then Jesus said to them, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NLT
What do Winston Churchill, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein and God all have in common? They all knew the significance of rest. Whether creating the world or the light bulb, a need for rest and recuperation is vital to performing in top mental, social, and physical condition.
ABC News reports that American’s work an average of nearly one month more per year than they did in 1970. With work days getting longer and vacations getting shorter or non existent, often we wonder why our tank is not as filled as it should be. It comes down to a simple idea that we do not schedule time for rest on a regular basis.
Rest is not sleeping, it is more than that. Rest is finding those activities that we all have that give us energy and fill our tank, so that we can perform at a higher level. That could be golf, photography, reading a book, hiking, spending time with the grandkids whatever it is we need to spend time doing more of it.
God knew that rest was vital in the process of creation that the seventh day was dedicated strictly to rest. If God put it into His schedule, we should do the same too.
